The cuisine of Liechtenstein has developed under the influence of the neighboring countries: Austria and Switzerland. Liechtenstein cuisine is very similar to French and Switzerland cuisines. Main ingredients of local dishes are preferably cheese, meat and vegetables. The traditional breakfast of local people is usually light and consists of bread, jam and coffee. For lunch Liechtensteiners have soup, a salad and a dessert, that’s why it is more substantial than a breakfast. Dinner is again light.
There exist different dishes that are extremely popular both among the tourists and locals. Kasknopfle is kind of a dumpling cooked of cheese and onions. Spatzli are dumplings or noodles with cheese, ham or bacon served in soup or as a side dish with gravy or a sauce. Ribel Grain is usually served with coffee and fruits; it is made of semolina and rebel corn. As for meat the residents of Liechtenstein prefer pork, especially smoked ham or bacon. Vegetables used in Liechtensteinian cuisine are tomatoes, potatoes, onions, olives, pears. Liechtenstein produces its own wine, so it is a tradition to have some wine with the food.
